Apartment Project: Office Wall NE

A lot can be learned about someone by what they keep around their apartment. If you walked into Ace Ventura’s apartment, you’d know he has an affinity for animals. Upon entering Holly Golightly’s apartment, you’d notice that it’s quite fancy, and a bit odd.

So, what does my apartment say about me, or yours about you?

Being married to a once-aspiring interior designer, our apartment says a whole lot about my wife. She loves bright colors, animal print patterns, and trendy little trinkets. I don’t mind, as she enjoys it, and I have little interest in decorating. She probably wouldn’t appreciate my large Batman poster hanging above the living room couch, anyway.

The main reason I’m creating these idealized illustrations is that I love to work in this simple, flat, geometric style. It’s fun. And, by creating these illustrations, I am putting together a visual chart of our belongings. Once I’ve mapped out every room, it will be interesting to see what percentage is me, and what differs between it and the rest of the apartment. We should also be able to see a blending of the two styles at times, such as under the TV, where all of my video game accessories are stored in patterned baskets and boxes.

Office Wall NE is the first piece in this series, and it features our pet rabbit, Gregory, and a cheetah-print chair. Let me know what you think, and be sure to look for more walls in the future!
